Garry D. Carman, 76 of Cook, passed away on December 24, 2024, at his home. He was born on November 7, 1948, to Duane & Darlene (Pieper) Carman in Nebraska City. After graduating from high school, Garry enrolled at Fairbury Junior College.  Then in 1970, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Assigned to VAW-121 Squadron aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, Garry completed three cruises in the Mediterranean Sea. After six years of active duty, he continued his service in the Navy Reserves for several more years. On January 12, 1973, Garry married Sharon Dye at the United Christian Church in Douglas. After his military service he attended Southeast Community College in Milford.

Following college, Garry worked for 14 years as an electrician with Gartner Construction before serving as the superintendent of utilities in Syracuse for 23 years. He cherished the relationships he built with his colleagues and made many lifelong friends.

Garry’s love of adventure was evident in his passion for motorcycling. He and his wife, Sharon, traveled across the United States and Canada on his Honda Goldwing. He also enjoyed fishing and spent many years raising Hereford cattle alongside his father, Duane, until his father's passing. A skilled carpenter, Garry took pride in completing numerous projects around his home. Known for both his orneriness and his strong work ethic, Garry took deep pride in providing for his family.

He is survived by his wife Sharon; daughter Amy (Brian) Leising; son Andrew (Mariah) Carman; grandchildren Elyssa Leising, Brayden Leising, Aubrey Carman, Garret Carman, Alexis Carman and Zander Carman; brothers Mike (Kathy) Carman and Robert (Deb) Carman; also many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Allan, brother Lyle and parents Duane & Darlene Carman.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Hope Lutheran Church in Burr. The service will be livestreamed on the Fusselman Facebook page. Burial will follow at the Cook Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 3 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. all at the funeral home in Syracuse.

Memorials are suggested to Otoe County Disabled American Veterans.
