Auburn seeks civics funds for Legion Park sports, pool renovations

AUBURN - The City of Auburn has sent the Nebraska Department of Economic Development a letter of intent to apply through the Civic and Community Center Financing Fund program for half of the renovation costs at Legion Memorial Park.
The project on historic property is estimated as $1.1 million and the grant request is $562,000.
City Administrator Crystal Dunekacke told History Nebraska the city is looking to complete two renovations at Legion Memorial Park.
The sports court renovation includes fencing, resurfacing, new hoops for the basketball court and nets for tennis and pickle ball.
The pool renovation includes the pool shell and gutter system, baby pool basin, pool deck, waterslides, chemical room and bathhouse.
In its one and six-year street plan, Auburn included a pool assessment report. Lamp Rynearson’s visual inspection includes cracks in the pool basin, gutter separation from a pool wall, cracks on the toddler pool basin and a blockable drain sump. The shower and water closets in the bathhouse are not ADA compliant. A new toddler pool with zero-entry and the additions of shade and cabanas on the pool deck and a deck sprayground area are recommended.
Also at Monday’s city council meeting, Holly Siske of Auburn Insurance Services requests a $40,000 downtown revitalization grant for a building at 902 Central Ave. Repairs include sitework, masonry, shear wall repairs, concrete and draining. The total project cost is expected to be $54,000.
