AUBURN – The junior champion at the Nemaha County fair’s BB gun contest preaches focus, staying steady and practice.

Daniel Epler, 9: “You do have to really practice. When I say practice, I mean practice.”

That from first year competitor Daniel Epler who won the medallion for the peep site.

The competition includes shooting from a set distance from the prone, sitting and standing positions.

Epler: “You’ve got to aim. You’ve got to be steady. You also have to hold your shot. … If this is the gun, you fire like one, one-thousand, two one-thousand. Because if you go like bang, that could ruin your shot.”

The highest possible score from both open site and peep site shooting is 400. Kale Davidson, the top intermediate open site shooter, had the highest score of 293.

Winning medallions in open sites were senior Jayden Adams, intermediate Kale Davidson and junior Grayson Leedom.

In peep site competition, Zoey Baltensperger was first among seniors, Marleigh Behrends was first in intermediate and Epler first among juniors.

He said he expects to improve upon his score for next year by perfecting his shot.

Epler: “yeah, you’ve got to squeeze the trigger.”

The shooting sports division at the fair also offers archery competition.
