NEBRASKA CITY – Boys wanted in connection with an Omaha shooting that left a 64-year-old man dead were involved in a police chase out of Nebraska City and are suspects at an earlier burglary at a gun shop here.

Police were watching the gun store on Frontage Road because it had been burglarized the night prior. Someone threw a big rock through the glass window and stole eight guns.

Interim Police Chief Lonnie Neeman said he believes one of the stolen guns was found by Omaha police after the boys, ages 11, 13, 14 and 17, were taken into custody.

When the Nebraska City officer pulled into the driveway, the driver of a black Kia Sportage took off. With only a suspicious vehicle to go on, police followed out of town on Orchard Drive.

Neeman said the Kia accelerated to speeds in excess of 120 mph once it reached Highway 75. He said police did not find out until later that the Kia had been involved in a carjacking in Omaha earlier in the night. Cass County took over the pursuit beyond Johnson's Gas-N-Go.

The driver of the car was taken into custody after the Kia crashed in Omaha. The other three boys ran from the scene. They were located at a south Omaha residence where they were asking to be let inside. Officers were able to chase them down on foot.

The boys are suspected of criminal homicide and robbery. Mursal Jama was pronounced dead at an Omaha hospital.

Neeman said a blue Kia four-door car was used in the Nebraska City burglary at 6:34 a.m. Tuesday. He said Omaha police were able to locate that car after the boys’ arrest.
