NEBRASKA CITY – The Nebraska City Historical Society announced new officers this week and a roofing project at the Old Freighters Museum.

A Wirth Foundation grant helped finance a $40,000 project to repair the roof and finish it with a composite shingle that appears similar to the original wood shake shingles.

A historical society press release says roof repair and shingle replacement were needed to protect archives and exhibits related to the freighting life of the Nebraska Territory.

Board members recently elected include Kathy McKillip, president; Dr. Jason Phillips, vice president; Gloria Glover, treasurer; and Margo Blobaum, secretary.

Additional board members are Kevin Boos, Sharon Hersemann and Lucille Sharp.

The historical society is looking for additional members and is planning a visioning session for the properties it is steward of, the Freighters Museum and the Taylor-Wessel-Bickel-Nelson House.
