FALLS CITY – The Falls City City Council approved a resolution committing a property north of the Falls City Library & Arts Center for an amphitheater.

The amphitheater is proposed on five open lots at 1506 Stone St. It will provide 15,000-square-feet of space for creating an arts-focused environment, promote recreational activities and stimulate economic growth.

The project timeline lists design and construction through the fiscal year ending in October of 2025 and completion later in the  year or the beginning of 2026.

City Administrator Anthony Nussbaum said some additional land and may be donated and the city is pursuing a Rural Community Recovery Program grant, which is part of the Covid-19 pandemic recovery,  for development of public properties. He expects the recovery program to use $10 million for 10 awards statewide.

He said the Falls City Creative District has a basic concept for an amphitheater park

Vacant building fee

The city council also approved resolutions to set vacant building fees.

Properties and owners are:

 

  • 2212 Hiland Ave., Paul Meyer of Auburn
  • 2411 Harlan St., John and Rebecca Sipf of Peoria, Ill.
  • 918 Fulton St., Tammie Fee of Yates Center, Kan.


    Fees are $750 for a year on the vacant building registration and $500 for every subsequent 180 days.

 

 

Apace day center

Apace, formerly Region V, has a day service operation in Auburn, but has 11 individuals in Richardson County. Instead of transporting them to Auburn, Apace intends to provide day services in Falls City. Apace would pay $175,000 for the former senior citizens center at 221 W. 16th St.
