FARRAGUT - Authorities are investigating an overnight fire that claimed a life in Farragut, Iowa.

Firefighters were dispatched just after midnight for a structure fire and witnesses told first responders that they saw a person go into the building, but not come back out.

After extinguishing the fire in a detached garage, responders searched the structure and found human remains.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the fatality this morning, but has not released the identity of the person pending notification.

 Farragut Fire, Shenandoah Fire and Rescue, Essex Fire, Riverton Fire, Sidney Fire, Hamburg Fire, Randolph Fire, Tabor Fire, and Thurman Fire all responded to the call with the Fremont County Sheriff's Office.

  The Iowa Department of Public Safety Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the incident.
