Auburn considers consultant for creative district

AUBURN - The Auburn City Council is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15.

The meeting, which was rescheduled from Jan. 8, includes a recommendation to appoint Aaron Jordan and Taylor Riggins to the volunteer fire department.

A utility easement is proposed for the Crestview Addition and funding of $2,500 proposed for an agreement with Petra Wahlqvist for the workbook phase of the creative district certification process.

Auburn has submitted a letter of interest to the Nebraska Arts Council to be a certified creative district and will next be working on a workbook and strategic plan.

Wahlqvist, a co-founder of BLIXT Locally Grown,  suggests three community conversation related to the district and development of a district vision and mission statement.

An ordinance is proposed to issue $663,000 in utility revenue bonds for sewer and manhole rehabilitation.

Mayor Chris Erickson is scheduled to proclaim January as National Mentoring Month in Auburn and call for public observances.

The proclamation says TeamMates mentors provide guidance to young people.

In other action, the street department report includes demolition of houses at 23rd and O Street and 25th and O.

The library reports 61 for the ornament making event and the January artist is Ray Kappel.
