PAWNEE CITY -  A motorcycle deer accident near Pawnee City this fall has resulted in a theft charge.

A sheriff’s deputy says James Leonard Jr., 48, of Summerfield, Kan., had been driving the motorcycle and was being treated by medics when he arrived.

An arrest affidavit says the deputy noticed the motorcycle had been crudely painted, the VIN number was not found and the license plate had a red square painted on it.

The deputy said an expert applied a chemical treatment to expose a VIN number, which came back to a motorcycle that had been reported stolen out of Omaha.

An arrest warrant for Leonard was issued on Oct. 16.
