NEBRASKA CITY – Nebraska City Police Cpt. Lonnie Neeman is urging residents not to fall for a theft scheme when callers claim to be from the police department.

He said callers are telling people they have court fines to pay or they will be arrested. Others are told there is a warrant out for their arrest because of missed jury duty.

One lady told police she was directed to purchase cash cards and a second victim called police Monday in response of a scam caller claiming to be police.

Neeman said the police department will never call to collect money and citizens should beware of scam calls.
