Bobcats Secure Road Win Over Yellowjackets to Close the Season
LAMONI, IA - The Peru State Bobcats beat the Graceland Yellowjackets 3-1 in Lamoni, Iowa, in their final game of the season Tuesday, October 31. The Bobcats finished their season 4-14 in the Heart of America Conference and 9-22 overall. The victory was their lone road win of 2023.
In the first set, Keiley Hein (SR., Omaha, NE) and Elli Williams (JR., OIathe, KS) came out to start the set with kills. The Bobcats went point for point with the Yellowjackets until strong serves by Chantal Paniagua (SR., Santo Domingo, D.R.) and kills by Keiley Hein and Reagan Osterhaus (JR., Wetmore, KS) created an 11-7 lead for the Bobcats. Serves by Rylee Hellbusch (JR., Plattsmouth, NE), kills by Erison Vonderschmidt (FR., Falls City, NE) and a big block by Addison Schneider (SO., Humphrey, NE) and Erison Vonderschmidt created a 19-13 lead for Peru State. The Yellowjackets just couldn't get past the strong blocks and a service ace by Keiley Hein at the end of the set. The Bobcats took set one 25-18.
The Bobcats came out showing the Yellowjackets no mercy in the second set. Starting the set with a block by Kalyssa Fox (JR., Casa Grande, AZ) and Elli Williams. Back-to-back kills by Keiley Hein and blocks that the Yellowjackets couldn't find their way around brought the Bobcats to an 18-13 lead in the set. Serves by Chantal Paniagua and Allie Schneider (SR., Humphrey, NE) and a final backrow kill by Erison Vonderschmidt sealed the deal for the Bobcats in set two, winning the set 25-18.
In set three, the Bobcats began the set with a service ace by Keiley Hein, kill by Erison Vonderschmidt and block by Addison Schneider and Kalyssa Fox. The Bobcats went point for point with the Yellowjackets with multiple kills by Kalyssa Fox, Erison Vonderschmidt and Addison Schneider to stay in the set, but the hosts were able to pull ahead and win the set 25-23.
The Bobcats started the fourth with kills by Erison Vonderschmidt. Keeping the set close until the Yellowjackets were able to pull away to a 22-14 lead. The Bobcats wouldn't let the set go that easy, coming back with kills by Addison Schneider and Keiley Hein and a big block by Allie Schneider and Elli Williams to get the score back up to 23-20. Strong serves by Keiley Hein brought a 24-24 tie in a battle to the finish. Kills by Erison Vonderschmidt and Addison Schneider sealed the set with a win for the Bobcats 29-27.
Keiley Hein led the Bobcats with ten kills and twelve digs on the night. Erison Vonderschmidt (FR., Falls City, NE) also tallied 19 kills for the match. Addison Schneider tallied nine kills and added four blocks for the Bobcats. Elli Williams had six blocks with four kills during the match. Kalyssa Fox had six kills and five blocks for the Bobcats.
Chantal Paniagua added 14 digs, with Alyssa Bock (SR., Plattsmouth, NE) adding eight digs. Allie Schneider had eight digs and 38 assists.
