Cass County sheriff reports three-vehicle accident near Elmwood

ELMWOOD – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reports a three-vehicle, injury accident Thursday morning on Highway 1.

Elmwood and Eagle rescue crews responded with Cass County EMA about a mile south of Elmwood.

A sheriff’s office press release says a truck owned by NIM Transportation and driven by Richard Devall, 49, of Norfolk, was facing northbound on the highway attempting to back off of the highway into a parking lot to make a delivery. Investigators say a Pontiac Grand Am driven by Wessly Bogenreif, 35, of Elmwood was traveling south on the highway and struck the semi-trailer.

A third vehicle, a Ford Escort driven by Murray Petersen, 67, of Elmwood, was also southbound and collided with both the truck and Grand Prix.

The press release says both Bogenrief and Petersen were transported  to Bryan LGH West in Lincoln with critical injuries. Devall was not injured and refused medical transport.

Nebraska State Patrol and Carrier Enforcement were called to assist with the investigation.
