City asked to waive permitting fees for Wildnerness Falls III

FALLS CITY – The Falls City City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 7.

The agenda includes an application for $435,000 downtown revitalization grant through the Nebraska Department of Economic Development.

Southeast Nebraska Development District is helping administer the 2023 grant and will review guidelines.

A resolution to establish a land bank between Falls City and the Village of Verdon will be discussed with EDGE. The land bank is intended to return vacant, abandoned and tax-delinquent properties to a productive cause.

Partners in Education are planning a back to school carnival from 5-9 p.m. on Aug. 8. The city is asked to close Lane Street from 14th to 16th streets.

The city is asked to waive $26,000 in fees for Wilderness Falls III building, electrical and mechanical permits.

Excel Development Group says FORTEN Building Group was the lowest of four bidders, but the project is still overbudget.

Allen Meyer proposes a no parking zone and removal of three street parking stalls along the frontage of 1705 Chase Street.

City Administrator Anthony Nussbaum reports that the recreation/wellness center feasibility study has begun. Planners have made preliminary visits to the old city hall ad Prichard Auditorium. Stakeholders meetings are expected later in August.
