KHN Center displays ceramic arts

NEBRASKA CITY -- Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts presents Draw-4 by Anthony Park Kascak. On display July 10 – Sept. 1, a Gallery Talk will be hosted on Thursday, July 20, at 5 p.m. in conjunction with KHN's monthly Third Thursday Artist Talks.
Kascak’s work explores how fantasy, history, and personal narrative grapple with the disorientation of cultural hybridity. He primarily works with ceramics, as it directly engages with various forms of transformation: ranging from the physical metamorphosis of ceramic as a material, to the labor of his studio practice mirroring self-growth, and through the abstraction of content there are various translations of historical information.

Draw-4 is inspired by hwatu ??, also known as flower cards, a Korean playing card game used to gamble or tell fortunes. The content and assembly of these cards are reimagined through a series of relief-carved or painted ceramic tiles, sculptures, and ritualistic objects.
Kascak is a first generation Korean-American originally from Colorado.
He received his BFA in Art Practices and BA in Psychology from the University of Colorado Boulder, and an MFA from the University of Arkansas in Studio Art with an emphasis in ceramics. Anthony is currently an artist in residence and exhibitions assistant at the LUX Center for the Arts in Lincoln, NE, and will be doing a 2-week residency at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center in July 2023.
