OMAHA, Neb. -- Several gathered on Friday for the unveiling of a new street name, one in remembrance of a young life lost in 1969.

Vivian Strong Street, is the new name of a portion of N 21st in Omaha between Clark and Paul Streets.

Vivian Strong was 14 years old when she was shot and killed by an Omaha police officer.

Several speakers spoke of the Strong family and Vivian Strong.

She was shot after leaving an abandoned home where her and her friends were dancing and hanging out.

It was reported that someone who was passing by, reported to the cops there was a robbery happening at the house on N 21st St. Strong and her friends ran.

She was shot once in the back of the head by a White officer James Loder.

Loder was arrested and charged with manslaughter before being released on a $500 bond. He was acquitted by an all-white jury and was allowed to continue on the police force for a couple more years.
