Auburn para charged with abuse of special needs student

AUBURN -A former para-professional at Auburn Public Schools is charged in Nemaha County with abuse of a special needs student.
An affidavit says 59-year-old David Archuleta was working with special needs students at Auburn Public Schools on April 6. Investigators say a 12-year-old student reported that he was pushed from a chair after refusing to follow instructions.
An arrest affidavit says a video recording of the middle school cafeteria shows Archuleta lifting the chair.
The affidavit says Archuleta told investigators he was not assigned to the student and told him to return to his home room. Archuleta told investigators, when the student refused to leave, he lifted the chair with expectation that student would stand up, but he slid out onto the floor. The child was not injured.
Archuleta told investigators he was trained to request assistance from the principal for defiant students, but did not do that. He said he had been fired by the school.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled Tuesday.
In other Nemaha County court news, Robert Wierman, 41, of Tecumseh is charged in Nemaha County with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and possession of methamphetamine on May 14.
A Nemaha County sheriff’s deputy told the court a .380 Ruger pistol was found in the glove box following a J Street traffic stop. An arrest affidavit says a glass pipe with meth residue was also found.
