Child pornography conviction lands Omaha man in prison for 8 years
OMAHA, Neb. -- A prison sentence of eight years was given to an Omaha man for his child pornography conviction.
U.S. Attorney Steven Russell said 40-year-old Derek Bailey, of Omaha, was sentenced in federal court in Omaha on Wednesday. He was convicted for transportation of child pornography. Bailey will serve 96 months in prison with a seven-year term of supervised release after. There is no parole in the federal prison system. Bailey also has to pay $3,000 in restitution.
According to court documents, law enforcement started investigating when they received a Cybertip from Yahoo about a user uploading child pornography in May 2019. An IP address for the uploads was associated with Bailey.
Officials said they searched Bailey’s electronic devices and found more than 833 images and videos of child pornography on them. A witness reported that after the search warrant, Bailey had been looking for a MicroSD card, which the witness found. The MicroSD card had graphic files of Bailey in addition to child pornography.
This case was investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol.
