TECUMSEH - The Nemaha Natural Resources District is looking for someone to fill a vacancy on its board of directors. At its May 11 regular meeting, the board accepted the resignation of Mike McDonald from his spot in Subdistrict 2. McDonald from Palmyra had served on the board since 2013.

The NRD’s board of directors will accept written applications from interested, potential directors. Applicants must be registered voters who also meet all other eligibility requirements for holding an elected office and reside within the appropriate boundaries of the vacant subdistrict. This term will expire at the end of the 2024 calendar year.

Subdistrict 2 includes parts of Cass, Otoe, Lancaster, and Johnson Counties. The towns of Palmyra, Burr, Douglas, and Cook are included in this area; however, Bennet is not included. A map showing the area is available upon request or on the NRD website (nemahanrd.org/about/nemaha-nrd-board-members).

Twenty-one members serve on the Nemaha NRD board and represent 10 subdistricts, two directors per subdistrict, who are elected in alternating election years.

Another member of the board is elected at-large from throughout the entire District. Russel Moss from Burr is the other director representing Subdistrict 2.

Nemaha NRD board meetings are held in Tecumseh on the second Thursday of each month, generally in the evening. Board members are eligible to receive $65 per diem and reimbursement of mileage and other expenses incurred while conducting NRD business.

Individuals interested in this position should address a letter requesting appointment to the Nemaha NRD Board of Directors, 62161 Hwy 136, Tecumseh NE 68450, prior to the June 8, 2023, regular meeting.
