FALLS CITY – The Falls City City Council approved a permit for an animal day care facility at a McLean Street residence on the north outskirts of the city.

Joe Dixon said his wife Jennifer saw a need for the animal day care in the region. He said Close To Home Kennels' unique role with outdoor play areas and indoor kennels is affirmed with customers coming from as far as Omaha, Plattsmouth and Nebraska City.

Dixon: “Customers tell us, repeat customers tell us, that when their dogs come up they squirm with excitement once they pull into the facility because they are so excited to come. They literally get out of their vehicle and run up to the door ready to come and spend a day with us.”

Falls City Planning Commission approved recommendations in April with installation of bark arrestors and a solid fence on the north side of the kennel.

Dixon: “We’ve been doing this for over eight months now, coming on eight months, and we fully believe that we are a value added to this community and we’ve shown an established, proven need.”

He said they are planning to expand services to include overnight grooming and bathing.
