James (Jim) Achenbach, age 88 of Thurman, IA

 

James H. (Jim) Achenbach, age 88 of Thurman, IA died Friday the 27th of January, 2023 at his home following an extended illness. Jim was born February 25th, 1934 near Malvern, IA to Raymond E. Achenbach and Velma Ruth (Pendergraft) Achenbach.

After graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy and served 4 years from 1952 to 1656. Jim married Lucille Spidell on May 28th, 1964. He was a Commercial Fisherman most of his life. Jim was a carpenter, farmer and musician with the James Boys. He also loved to duck hunt and enjoyed raising his garden.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters; brother, Gerald Achenbach; and 3 children. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Achenbach of Thurman, IA; children, Lester Achenbach and wife Teresa of Thurman, Leonetta Lorimor and significant other Jim Webel of Thurman, Leland Achenbach and wife Kim of Farragut, IA, Lyle Achenbach of Riverton, IA, Sharon Winters and spouse Roger of LaPlatte, NE, and Janice Kloch of LaPlatte; 15 grandkids including Craig Achenbach-Rice spouse Keith of Syracuse, NE, 23 great grandkids; 3 brothers, Danny Achenbach and wife Patty, Lonny Achenbach and wife Ricki, and Loren Achenbach and friend Kim; 2 sisters, Lucille VanScyoc and husband Jake and Bonnie Mounce and husband Gary; numerous nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the Family Home,1530 227th Avenue near Thurman.  Interment of ashes will private. Memorials will go to the Bartlett, IA Community Church.
