Highway 370 reopened after firefighters contain Papillion blaze
PAPILLION, Neb. (WOWT) - A large amount of smoke from a brush fire could be seen drifting over the Omaha metro area Saturday afternoon.
A fire in Papillion near Highway 370 and 66th Street kept crews busy Saturday. The smoke from the fire was heading north and crossing over much of Omaha.
Authorities at one point closed Highway 370 from 48th to 72nd Streets as they continued to fight the fire. Both directions of Highway 370 have since reopened.
At 5:28 p.m., authorities said the fire was 100% contained, but people were still asked to avoid Highway 370 to Capehart, and 72nd to 60th Streets. Crews were still working to put out spot fires into Saturday night.
Smoke was seen over at least as far as 72nd and Dodge in Omaha.
Heavy smoke can cause health issues for sensitive groups. The Douglas County Health Department recommends sensitive groups stay indoors and avoid heavy exertion when dealing with smoke from grass and wildfires.
