Chadron State travels to New Mexico this weekend
CHADRON, Neb. -- March 30, 2023 -- After handing Colorado Mesa their first conference series loss since 2015, the Chadron State College softball team hopes to continue their momentum this weekend in Las Vegas, New Mexico, against New Mexico Highlands.
The Eagles defeated the Mavericks in three of their four games, improving CSC's record to 11-20 overall and 9-15 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
Lauren Zimmerman, a sophomore from Reno, Nevada, led Chadron State against the Mavericks. On the season, Zimmerman is batting a team high .358.
This weekends opponent, the Cowgirls of New Mexico Highlands, are 12-19 overall and 8-15 in RMAC play.
After being swept by Colorado Christian last weekend, the Cowgirls dropped to eighth in the RMAC standings. CSC is now seventh, trailing Fort Lewis for the sixth and final playoff spot.
Fort Lewis dropped three of four games against Chadron on March 4 and 5.
New Mexico Highlands and CSC were both swept by CCU. The Cowgirls were also swept by Colorado Mesa.
Samantha Gamboa leads the Cowgirls with a .414 batting average. She has a team high 36 hits on the season.
Arianna Ramirez leads this week's opponent with 18 RBI's and three homeruns on the season.
Maya Milano and Arianna Ramirez have both started 14 games at pitcher for NMHU.
Maya is 4-10 on the season while Ramirez is 6-9.
With an ERA of 5.45, Milano has allowed 142 hits and 89 runs while walking 39 batters and striking out 34.
Ramirez's ERA is 6.16. She has struck out 63 batters and walked 41 this season. While allowing 127 hits, 86 runs have been scored, 83 being earned.
Last season, CSC and New Mexico Highlands split their series 2-2.
Saturday's games are scheduled for first pitch at 12 and 2 p.m., while Sundays are at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
