Man arrested for reportedly stealing gun in Lincoln

A man was arrested in Lincoln after he tried to run from officers with a reportedly stolen gun.

LINCOLN, Neb. -- A man was arrested in Lincoln after he tried to run from officers with a reportedly stolen gun.

The Lincoln Police Department said officers were sent to 8th St. and P St. for a reported weapons violation around 8:30 p.m. on March 10.

Officers said the 23-year-old victim reported that he was dropping off his girlfriend and a vehicle came up behind him and started honking the horn at him. The driver reportedly started to yell at the victim.

According to authorities, the victim said he told the other driver that he waiting for his girlfriend to get into her vehicle and leave. The other driver then reportedly pulled up beside him. The driver allegedly took out, as the victim described it, a black revolver style handgun and pointed it at the victim.

Officials said the other driver was 24-year-old Riley Scott. Officers with the Lincoln Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force reportedly saw Scott leaving a home near 32nd St. and R St. at 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

LPD said the officers got out of their vehicle but Scott ran off. The officers reportedly saw Scott reach for something in his waistband, get rid of a towel, and then had something in his right hand. 

According to authorities, Scott ran into and fell over a small chain link fence. Officers reportedly heard something fall onto the ground and slide after Scott fell over the fence.

Officers said they were able to take Scott into custody after a short struggle. They reportedly found a Taurus 9mm handgun that was reported stolen on Oct. 7, 2020 from the area of 48th St. and Huntington Ave. Three syringes that had methamphetamine residue was also reportedly found.

Police said Scott was arrest for possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a controlled substance, terroristic threats, and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony. Scott was also reportedly cited and released for obstructing a police officer and resisting arrest.
