SYRACUSE – The Syracuse City Council authorized attorney Jerry Stilmock Wednesday to pursue nuisance abatement for properties at 680 Fifth Street and 420 Fourth St.

 

LuRae and Bob Hallstrom presented a plan for a sand volleyball court and shelter to be constructed at the Syracuse complex in memory of their daughter Morgan. The Hallstroms raised $11,500 and were granted matching keno funds toward the project. The remainder amount was given by the economic growth fund.

Mayor Dettmer introduced and welcomed Melissa Juilfs as the new librarian for the Syracuse Public library beginning Feb. 21.

An ordinance regarding vendor trucks within the city passed. All vendors need to register at city hall. Fees will be assessed if electricity from the city needs to be used.

Alison Janecek Borer of Cline Williams spoke  regarding tax increment financing funds and the future growth of Syracuse.

Taylor Furnas of Syracuse was awarded $3,333 from the childcare inventive program to place a fence at her newly established child care.

A software issue caused late fees on city utility workers’ utility bills in January. Those fees were waived. Moving forward, all late fees will apply as any customer.

Lacy Johnson and Kristi Fletcher were approved by city council to sit on the library board.

Shamrock Shuffle organized by  Project Playground  was given the go ahead on March 25  for a 5K run. Contact Julie Beach  for a participation form.

Councilmen Werner and Patton will oversee the poisonous and flammable liquids and gases ordinance, while Councilmen Halvorsen and Gigstad oversee the tiny house ordinance .
