Authorities discover marijuana operation at Wayne County shooting scene, two men arrested
WISNER, Neb. — The Nebraska State Patrol released new information Thursday afternoon related to a Wednesday night shooting in Wayne County.
Cody Thomas from the Nebraska State Patrol said NSP officials are continuing to investigate the shooting death of an individual near Wisner.
According to the NSP, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to the incident around 7:15 p.m. at a residence near 320 Y Road, north of Wisner.
When deputies arrived, the NSP said it located a male victim with a gunshot wound.
Authorities said the victim was identified as 65-year-old Gerald Ruskamp, who had been transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Sheriff’s Office has requested that the State Patrol lead the investigation, according to the NSP.
Thomas said as troopers and deputies from Wayne and Cuming Counties worked to secure the scene and surrounding area.
Officials said a marijuana grow operation was discovered on the property.
Thomas said that two individuals have been arrested. 30-year-old Carl Ruskamp and 64-year-old Duane Ruskamp were both arrested on charges related to the grow operation. Gerald Ruskamp was the father of Carl Ruskamp and the brother of Duane Ruskamp.
Both men were lodged in Thurston County Jail.
The NSP said that, at this time, there are no suspects in custody in relation to the shooting investigation.
