Kathryn Martin, age 79 of Glenwood, IA formerly Sidney, IA

Kathryn Martin, 79, formerly of Sidney, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Glen Haven Village in Glenwood, Iowa. Kathryn was born in Nebraska City, Nebraska on May 28, 1943, to Delores Gardner (Pryor) Straw of Nebraska City and James Pryor of Wichita, Kansas. Kathryn graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1961. She was married to Richard Martin of Sidney, Iowa on July 14, 1961, at the Church of the Nazarene in Nebraska City.

Kathryn was a mother and home maker until her youngest child entered school. She then went to work at Pendleton’s prior to going to work at the Sidney Health Center as a nursing assistant and medication aide until she retired. She assisted Richard with raising a large garden and enjoyed canning the vegetables that they produced. Kathryn and Richard belonged to a bowling league for several years. Kathryn enjoyed going to and watching all the extracurricular activities in which her children participated. Kathryn’s greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and other family members at their home for holidays and cookouts. She worked very hard throughout the years to provide the best life she could for her family.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband Richard, son Brian Keith Martin, father, James Pryor, mother, Delores Straw, step-father, Jack Straw, sister Lavena (Pryor) Barrett and brother James Pryor, Jr.  She is survived by her son, Ronald Martin and partner Dan, of Omaha, Nebraska, daughter, Patricia Martin of Sidney, Iowa, son Jeffrey Martin and wife Lorrie of Glenwood, Iowa, son, Patrick Martin and wife Sara of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and son David Martin and wife Cathy of Nebraska City, 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, many cousins, and friends.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 3, 3022 at the Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA with Rev. Carl Phillips officiating. Visitation with the family greeting friends will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the Sidney, IA Cemetery and a memorial fund has been established. A reception will be held afterward at the “Gathering Place” in Sidney.
