It was announced on Friday that a man from Iowa will serve 3.5 years in prison for having a firearm.

OMAHA, Neb. -- It was announced on Friday that a man from Iowa will serve 3.5 years in prison for having a firearm.
According to court documents, 27-year-old Dylan McKeown, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, was sentenced for being a felon in possession of a firearm for 42 months. There is no parole in the federal system and when McKeown is released from prison, he will have a three-year term of supervised release.
Authorities said the Omaha Police Department officers stopped a white Chevy Impala for a traffic violation on Feb 1, 2021 at N 35th and Redman Avenue. The officers did a data check of the backseat passenger, Darrell Thompson, and found he had an active warrant for his arrest. Thompson was reportedly removed and searched when officers found two defaced firearms in his waistband. OPD removed the other passengers for patdowns and found a TriStar C-100 9mm handgun in McKeown's waistband. McKeown was the front seat passenger and was arrested after police determined he also had a record of felony convictions.
According to court documents, McKeown's sentence was increased for obstruction of justice after it was determined he had lied under oath during a pretrial hearing. McKeown has been convicted of felonies on at least three prior occasions in Pottawattamie County, Iowa for second-degree theft, forgery, and a separate second-degree theft.
This case was investigated by the Omaha Police Department.
