Former Pioneer wrestler competes for Best Warrior at National Guard regional
Keyes Nelson represents Nebraska as soldier of the year

NEBRASKA CITY – A former Pioneer wrestler and Nebraska City resident Keyes Nelson is representing the Nebraska National Guard as the state’s soldier of the year while competing in regionals of the Best Warrior Competition.

Spc. Keyes Nelson of the Nebraska National Guard’s 134th Infantry Airborne competed in the Best Warrior Competition in April and went to regionals with soldiers from six states near Braggs, Okla., on May 17.
Events include an obstacle course, multiple weapons marksmanship and 12-mile ruck march.
Nelson wrestled at Midlands University and competed in Dynasty Combat Sports.
His training prior to joining the National Guard included Minner-Gray in Nebraska City and Skywalker 101 boxing in Papillion.

Spc. Keyes Nelson is competing at the Camp Gruber Training Center. The Best Warrior Contest consists of eight events to promote solider readiness and Army values.
Winners will represent the region at the Army National Guard’s 2022 Best Warrior Competition.
