Chase Brown signs to Peru State College for basketball
Nebraska City senior Chase Brown signs his letter of intent to play basketball next season for Peru State College.
NEBRASKA CITY- Nebraska City High School senior Chase Brown made his announcement official earlier this week by signing to Peru State to play basketball. The 6'4" guard will continue his basketball career just 22 miles away from his hometown of Nebraska City.
Brown says that the decision was made through a mixture of travel distance and personal history. "I went to Peru a lot as a kid," Brown said. "It's close, and I like the campus."
Brown will join the Peru State Bobcats roster next season, led by Peru State head coach Bob Ludwig. Ludwig, an Omaha area native, will be in his sixth season coaching the 'Cats. Brown says that he and Ludwig have been able to take advantage of the close proximity between the two. "I talked to him a couple times over text, and in person," Brown said. "He's a nice guy. He lives in Nebraska City, so he's local."
Recognized by some as the toughest NAIA conference for men's basketball, the Heart of American Athletic Conference gathers a melting pot of talent. From Division 1, to Division 2, to High School, the NAIA recruits from all levels. Brown says that even though the competition level rises, his main goal remains the same. "It's a jump," Brown said. "I hope I can play—just having fun with teammates down in Peru State."
Brown says his individual goals for the offseason include "getting stronger, bigger, and just playing basketball."
In addition to signing, Brown also took the time to reflect on his most recent chapter. "I just want to thank all of them (coaches and teammates) for all the years," Brown said. "Especially playing for Nebraska City. It's been a long 12 years of playing basketball with the same people. It was fun, and I won't forget it."
