Sheriff says pickup snapped power pole and became entangled in lines

PLATTSMOUTH – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reports that a power pole was snapped in half at Nehawka after it was hit by a pickup truck.

A sheriff’s office press release says the driver, 61-year-old Devin Rowland, was accelerating on South Street and lost control. The truck became entangled in power lines after the collision and power was knocked out to the entire town of Nehawka for about nine hours beginning 2:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Rowland and a passenger, 55-year-old Robin Rowland, walked away from the scene with only minor injuries.

The sheriff’s office reports that driving while intoxicated is suspected.
