Mayor proclamation for wrestling champ
Ruiz is first state champion since 2001
NEBRASKA CITY – Nebraska City Mayor Bryan Bequette commended state champion wrestler Mikah Ruiz with a proclamation at Monday’s City Council meeting.
Ruiz, who amassed 27 pins and won the 220-pound Class B title, was joined at the proclamation by coaches Tyler Hodges, Josh Digmann, Alex Meredith and Pat Heng.

The proclamation says Ruiz is the first Pioneer to win a wrestling championship since 2001. He joins six others in school history, including former Mayor Jack Hobbie.
Hobbie joined the meeting on the Zoom platform and congratulated Ruiz and all wrestlers. Nebraska City had nine state qualifiers and three district champions.
Bequette: “The mayor, as well as the citizens of the city of Nebraska City, are always proud of the academic and athletic achievements of their local students.”
