(Peru, Neb.)—On Monday the Peru State softball team lost to Midland 2-0 in a defensive struggle. The Bobcats drop to 2-1 and Midland improves to 4-3.

It was a quick a first inning for the Bobcats as they went down in order 1-2-3. Midland started off hot with a leadoff single and then a double to score the runner from first.

The 'Cats defense bowed up after that as that was the only run allowed in the inning. The Warriors scored one run off two hits and left three on base.

Peru State threatened in the second inning as they got base runners on from a Jessye Rowland (Pearcy, Ark.) hit by pitch, a Carli Kohout (Cortland) single and a Jerica German (Cortland) walk loading the bases early. Unfortunately, the Bobcats were not able to capitalize as the next batters struck out and then grounded out into a double play. The Warriors went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the second inning.

The third inning for the Bobcats was quick as they had no runs on no hits and left no one on base. Midland also had a quick inning as they only recorded one hit in the inning leaving the runner on base.

In the fourth the Bobcats were only able to muster a two-out walk before a fly out to right field would end the inning. The Warriors in the fourth threatened as they singled with one out. Then a pinch runner stole second putting pressure on the 'Cats. The threat subsided and no damage was done as the Warriors had no runs on one hit and left one on base.

The bats were quiet all day for the 'Cats as they again went down in order in the top of the fifth. The Warriors started the bottom of fifth with a leadoff double. Then after a walk, fly out and a stolen base, Midland threatened again with runners in scoring position. The Bobcats would get out of a bases loaded jam after a walk, the Warriors grounded into a fielder's choice to end the inning.

The Warriors again were left empty handed with no runs on one hit and left three on base. The Bobcats got a runner on base in the sixth inning on a one out single by Payton Beckmann(Syracuse) Peru State was unable to capitalize and left Beckmann on base.

The Warriors offense woke up in the sixth starting with a leadoff double. Then a double later in the inning scored a Warrior making the score 2-0.  The Warriors threatened again after they stole third base. The Bobcats did not give up another run in the inning. The Warriors would score one run off two hits and left one on base.

The Bobcats offense stayed stagnant in the final inning as they had no runs on no hits and no one was left on base. They would fall to the Warriors 2-0. The Warriors scored two runs on seven hits and had no errors. The Bobcats had zero runs on two hits and no errors.

Alana Krieser (Lincoln) pitched six innings, striking out three batters, giving up two runs on seven hits and the two runs were earned. She would take the loss on the day.

Beckmann and Kohout led the way in hits with one each.

The Bobcats home opener is this Wednesday March 2, for a doubleheader against  College of Saint Mary. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
