AUBURN – City Councilwoman Katy Billings moved Monday to fund nearly 75 percent of the projected expenses for  Auburn’s 140th birthday celebration on May 7.

Leslie Clark of the Auburn Development Council presented the financial projections that include $2,350 for six hours of live, cover band music.

Other expenses are birthday banners, cupcakes and a clown.

The city council approved $3,000 from the keno fund, shy of the $4,000 projections. Clark said she is also seeking funds from Nemaha County Tourism and the ADC.

Other events being considered for the birthday celebration are a logo design contest, Auburn history bits honoring Church Howe and Charles Nixon and a community photograph.
