Syracuse residents deny tampering with electric meter
City says utilities were turned off and former residents evicted
SYRACUSE – Three Syracuse residents are charged with misdemeanor theft of services after city officials determined an electric meter at a Poplar Street residence was tampered with.
A sheriff’s office affidavit says electricity and water had been shut off to the residence on Sept. 1 and the former resident evicted.
The landlord contacted the city utility nine days later saying the lights at the residence were on.
Utility workers reported that a meter on nearby pole had been broken into.
The former residents were arrested Monday, but deny tampering with the meter.
