Patricia Lutz, 82 years of age, died Tuesday, October 19th, 2021 at her residence at the Ambassador in Nebraska City.

Pat was born November 16th, 1938 in Old Wyoming, NE to late Henry and Mary Lutz. Pat was one of eight children who grew up predominantly in Nebraska City; where she attended St. Bernard’s Academy.

After marriage Pat moved to nearby Percival, IA where she raised six children, a large garden and strongly and faithfully served the Lord, her family and the farming community her sacrifices and patience helped build; and who’s kitchen always fed.

Pat’s greatest devotion was the Lord for His generosity and for gifting her with her greatest joy -her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Over the years Pat found herself being called “Pat” less, “Patricia” fewer still, and “Grandma” the most; which was just the way she liked it.

Pat was thrilled when the opportunity came for her to serve as the family chauffeur, always the first in line for parent pickup after school. (She even ferried a car-load of “hoodlums” on a summer road trip. Complete with cheeseburgers -an important detail.) A family-five-star chef; Pat baked dozens of birthday cakes, crafted hundreds of favorite meals and fed literally THOUSANDS; as Pat did not know anything smaller than portions feeding 12. For her grandchildren, Pat was cheerleader at countless school events, and always the best place to land when seeking comfort, compassion or laughter.

Pat’s kind heart, vibrant personality, smile, needlepoint tea towels, knitted creations and Rummy Bears will be greatly missed by all.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ralph and Tony Lutz, and sons Ronald and Timothy H. Shirley.  She is survived by son Matthew (Ree) Shirley of Nebraska City, NE, daughter Michele (Jason) Thompson of Thurman IA, 10 grandchildren, their spouses and 11 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life  openhouse will be held Sunday, October 24, 2021, at the Sidney American Legion Club 2 to 4 pm.
