FALLS CITY – Nebraska governor candidate Charles Herbster of Falls City recently discussed his experiences on a visit to the U.S. southern border on the War Room podcast featuring former White House Chief Political Strategist Steve Bannon.

In a Facebook post, Herbster said “it’s one thing to see the situation at the border on TV and read about it in the headlines. It’s another to visit and see first hand just how much chaos is going on at the border in reaction to the failed policies of the Biden Administration.”

Herbster recommends all governors visit the Rio Grande Valley to see what is going on.

Herbster told the podcast audience he saw photographs in early September indicating 15,000 people taking shelter under a bridge trying to stay out of the sun.

Herbster: “We don’t realize what’s taking place in this country and the fact that we are going to be a Venezuela if we continue to leave our borders open. The chaotic disaster that the Biden Administration has created is absolutely uncalled for and will change the entire culture of the greatest country on the face of the Earth.”

Bannon recognized Herbster as a successful businessman and asked why he would enter the arena of politics at a time it is so confrontational.

Herbster: “The fact is, if Christian-type business people like ourselves, who have not really been involved in politics except to support other people, if we’re not willing to take a leadership role today in this country, in America, 245 years of a free, independent democracy and republic, truly a republic, then we’re saying we’re going to leave those positions of leadership to other people across this nation who are less qualified than we are."

Herbster: “I can just tell you, I am here, you are correct, this is the last thing in the world that I dreamed I would be doing four or even five years ago, but I’m here because I care about America. I care about our young people. I see all the drugs that are coming across. We’re talking about the immigration policy and the illegals, the other thing we’re not spending much time talking about is the cocaine and Fentanyl  that is coming across the borders illegally. That’s the other reason we need to close our borders. That will destroy the hearts and minds of the next generation of people who will lead America.”

He also spoke about federal response to parental opposition to critical race theory.
