NEBRASKA CITY – A recent Nebraska City Public Schools press release offers gratitude to the community, local foundations and other non-property tax sources for additional revenue.

The release says several items have been added to the school in years past and will be added in the near future without local tax money.

The Steinhart and Nebraska City Community foundations provided funds for over 125 chromebooks and a Cargill grant provides over 500 chromebook cases. A Casey’s grant provided 59 classroom projectors.

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund was created. It is established under the federal CARES Act.

Congress also passed the  Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund in response to COVID-19 impacts.

The ESSERS stimulus grant and GEER funds have provided boiler repair, heating and air replacements, a school vehicle for meal transportation, teacher laptops, additional chromebooks and a high school lab upgrade.

A $62,000 roof replacement for the central office is paid for by an insurance claim with a $1,000 deductible.
