NORFOLK -- In an effort to spotlight projects in minority communities and teach others about history, the Elkhorn Valley Museum is hosting virtual discussions in its series 'Shaping Our Future.'

The series originally initiated to celebrate Hispanic heritage month in September. It has grown to focus on new topics each session regarding diversity and the accomplishments of community leaders.

For Native American Heritage month, the program talked about powwows, how boarding schools erased indigenous culture, and the efforts of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women activists.

"We all want the same thing," said Education Coordinator Libby McKay. She hopes the program can bring people together.

While the most recent talks focused on Black History Month, future panels will look into feminism and how opportunities for women have changed.

McKay said she will talk to elementary aged girls to gain perspectives from girls of all ages.

You can find each discussion on the museum's Youtube channel, or tune in to their website on Fridays.
