FALLS CITY – Prosecutors say a Kansas man stole a vehicle in Falls City, later crashed and was chased down on foot by the vehicle’s owner.

Brian Valdez, 46, of Lansing, Kan., is charged with theft and carrying a concealed weapon.

An arrest affidavit says the owner of a 2007 Chrysler Crossfire was visiting at a friend’s apartment when he heard the car start outside and saw it pull out of the lot. The man rushed to another vehicle and went in search of his car, when the Crossfire crashed into a barricade on Towle Street.

The affidavit says Valdez then ran on foot, but was chased down by the car owner.

A responding police officer says he had to pull the men apart from a physical altercation when he arrived at the scene.

The officer says a large knife was later found in Valdez's coveralls.
