LINCOLN - State Sen. Julie Slama has introduced a bill to reduce restrictions on fireworks.

In a Facebook post, the senator from Peru says LB152 would legalize fireworks similar to levels in Missouri and Kansas.

She said the bill would not supersede local ordinances.

LB152 would remove language that excludes rockets that are mounted on a stick, wire sparklers and firecrackers with more than 50 mg of explosive from the list of consumer fireworks.

Fireworks that would remain banned are those that have been tested by the state fire marshal and are deemed unsafe. Display fireworks of 130 mg or more of explosive would be for public display only and not listed among consumer fireworks.
