Veterans Memorial Building Okay For Bids
Nebraska City Veterans Memorial Building Board will seek bids for major renovation without use of tax dollars
NEBRASKA CITY – Nebraska City commissioners gave their approval Monday for the Nebraska City Veterans Memorial Building Committee to seek bids on the Leo A Daly architectural plans for building renovations.
Board President Jim Kuhn said the plans calls for an overhaul of the building’s heating and air conditioning, as well as bathrooms and an elevator with stops on all three floors.
He said electrical upgrades are needed for the HVAC systems, elevator and general use.
Kuhn: “In that old building they didn’t have much. In the big auditorium I think there’s four outlets in the whole room, so that tells you why we are doing all this.”
He said there is already interest in using the auditorium.
Kuhn: “The auditorium is going to be very, very exciting. There are going to be plays, there’s going to be concerts, there’s going to be Christmas programs. I have a committee of four or five people that have a background in the arts. They know about lighting, they know about speakers and sound. They are excited to get part of this building and can’t wait to start putting plans together in the next couple of years.”
A commercial kitchen is planned for the bottom level to serve as a culinary incubator and cooking classroom.
