PLATTSMOUTH- To what extent the city of Plattsmouth will repair the Missouri River city park and boat ramp has yet to be determined.

At the May 18 council meeting City Engineer Steven Perry presented cost estimates to restore the city’s boat ramp, park and Dock Road to its pre-flooding condition.

Perry: “These estimates were requested by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency)…The total cost to restore these facilities is estimated to be $1,643.100.”

Due to the high cost, the council directed Perry to bring more options for restoring the area to the June 1 meeting. He returned Monday to present two scaled-down options with lesser pricetags.

Perry: These options involve improving the Dock Road access to the launch area and protecting the boat ramp along the Missouri River. These estimates do not involve the restoration of the picnic area, landscaping or electrical service. Access to the Boat Club to the north will not be restored.”

Option 1 – estimated at $380,480 -- involves removing flood debris, trees, broken pavement, pavement surfacing and drainage piping between Dock Road and the river from the south entry north to the concrete turnaround at the boat ramp.

Perry: “The work includes replacement of the damaged concrete at the boat ramp, minor fill around the launch area, stone rip-rap placement erosion control measures and limited seeding.”

The asphalt surfacing on Dock Road and the east loop drive payment would be removed and hauled away. The aggregate roadway base would be reconstructed and re-compacted with crushed rock surfacing.

Perry: “Minor shouldering would be placed as needed.
