Nebraska City Adds Union Areas To Fire District
Union Fire Department dissolves
NEBRASKA CITY – The Nebraska City Rural Fire Protection District announced Thursday an expansion of its fire district boundaries to include portions of the Union Fire Department.
A press release says representatives of Nebraska City, Nehawka and Union fire departments decided to dissolve the Union Fire Department and split the area up between Nehawka and Nebraska City districts.
John Golden, president of the Nebraska City Rural Fire Protection District, says the district will gain about 7 square miles, including all properties from the Cass County line south and County Road 54 east to the Missouri River.
The area includes the Old Wyoming campground, Johnson’s Gas and Go and the Magellan pipeline pumping station.
Nebraska City Fire Chief Rob Schreiner said the department is getting familiar with the area is ready to provide fire protection.
The Nebraska City Fire Department now covers 121 square miles with a population of 7,500 people.
