NEBRASKA – The Nebraska School Activities Association has suspended all school activities.

Johnson County Central says in a Twitter post that practices can resume on Monday, March 30. Competition scheduled on and after April 2 will take place unless otherwise announced.

The junior high wrestling meet at Nebraska City today has been canceled.

Auburn High School coaches are expected to meet with athletes after school today regarding the NSAA announcement.

Practice for springs sports began on March 2.

Matt Koehler, athletic director at Nebraska City High School, said he has not had a chance to talk with students about today's announcement, but said while he is sure the student athletes are disappointed, they understand the necessity for the action.

He said there is hope the suspension of activities will not go beyond the March 30 date, so there can still be an end to the spring sports season.

The action will impact boys and girls soccer the most because their state tournament is earlier than baseball.

Nebraska City has soccer games scheduled against Platteview, Waverly, Omaha Gross, Norris and Conestoga during the suspended period. Plattsmouth also has five soccer matches.

Koehler said schools will look for make up games, but open dates are likely to be limited, if they are allowed at all.

Nebraska City also had baseball games against Bennington, Platteview and Platte Valley during the suspension period.

Auburn has games three games scheduled in April, after the current suspension period.

boys golf, girls tennis and track and field will also be impacted. In addition to sports, the NSAA decision will halt speech competition.
