Proper Timing For School Closings Urged
Congressman Jeff Fortenberry hosts Medical Center doctor in virtual town hall meeting

NEBRASKA CITY - Dr. Jeffrey Gold of the University of Nebraska Medical Center expects a press conference to be held Friday regarding the impact of the new corona virus on K-12 schools.
Instead of whether schools should close or not, he expects the message to be about the timing of closings.
Gold: “You don’t want to do it too soon and not gain the benefit of it. And then, of course, you don’t want to do it too late.”
He said the number of cases and infections in a community could be a marker or community-acquired cases could be the marker.
Gold said there is proper concern for protecting school kids, but closing will also be considered as a way to protect their parents and grandparents.
Gold: “You really have to get the timing right.”
