LINCOLN — Crunch time is coming for Nebraska lawmakers now that this year’s session is nearly halfway over, and they’ve winnowed down their bills to a few top priorities.

Lawmakers each get one “priority bill” per session, and committees get two.

Sen. Rob Clements priority bill is LB870 to change provisions related to direct borrowing by cities and villages for repair and reconstruction after a calamity.

The bill received floor debate on Jan. 9.

Sen. Julie Slama named LR288 her priority. It urges Congress and the US Army Corps of Engineers to prioritize flood control as a top priority in river management.

Sen. Slama’s bill, LB790,  to change state bidding requirements is the top priority of the government and military affairs committee.

Friday was the deadline for lawmakers and committees to pick their priorities.

The executive board’s top priority is LR 279 CA, which would amend the state constitution to authorize an increase in the number of members to the state Legislature.

LB 974 is the top priority of the revenue committee.
