NEBRASKA CITY -  The Franciscan Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother have received an anonymous donation of $20,000 toward the construction of their new Motherhouse and Spiritual Center.

The Franciscan Sisters, who have resided in the Lincoln Diocese since 2000, are developing the center on 10 acres north of Arbor Lodge State Park.

In addition to the Motherhouse and Spiritual Center, a wooded area is being developed as “God’s Garden of Grace.”

This garden will eventually include stone walkways, grottos, religious statuary and a rosary walk,  as well as the stations of the cross and contemplative areas.

The Spiritual Ministry Center will feature a chapel, private parlor, a lending library, four guest rooms for an extended stay and a multipurpose room.

School aged students will have the potential to grow in their faith by participating in retreat days consisting of spiritual instruction, quiet reflection, prayer and Christ-centered social activities.

Adult classes will also be offered on a variety of religious and spiritual/inspirational topics at various times of the week to encourage spiritual growth and a call to holiness.

Kevin Clark of Clark Architects Collaborative 3, has drawn up an initial floor plan and an exterior elevation design to assist the Sisters in their fundraising efforts.
