SYRACUSE – Otoe County Sheriff Colin Caudill introduced new deputy sheriff Trew Bushhousen at the Syracuse City Council meeting Wednesday.

The sheriff said Bushhousen will be a welcome asset as the county has handled 127 calls for service, including 53 in Syracuse.

There were three burglaries in Syracuse in October. One was at a business and two at churches.

Sheriff Caudill said the Lutheran and Catholic churches in Syracuse were burglarized over the past several weeks. He said items were taken from both locations and there was signs of forced entry on interior doors.

The sheriff said investigators are checking video and canvassing neighborhoods regarding the crimes.

  In other action, Bruce Neemann with the Syracuse Fire Department announced that  the Carl Landgraf Trust has awarded $25,000 to the Syracuse Fire Department. The grant will be used to install an emergency generator for the fire and rescue complex.

 The city approved the purchase of a 2020 Silverado 4 x 4 truck with a gallon dump body for $36,817 for the utilities department.

 Naomi Stall has been approved by the city council as the new manager at the Syracuse Country Club.

 

The fine schedule for pets and vehicle parking was passed.

Tom Compton was granted his conditional use permit for a campground located at 160 Mohawk Street.
