NEBRASKA CITY-  Nebraska City commissioners heard a staff re-alignment proposal Monday that would put the deputy clerk-treasurer and city treasurer directly under the city administrator rather than the city clerk.

City Administrator Perry Mader said the city had completed changes to job descriptions before he arrived in 2023. Since then, he has noticed the amount of time he works closely with the deputy clerk-treasurer and city treasurer, especially when preparing the city budget.

Mayor Bequette said he listed the agenda item as a discussion rather than an action item so commissioners would have opportunity to discuss the issue with City Clerk Randy Dunster, who would continue to supervise an administrative clerk.

In other business, Mayor Bequette recognized Jeff Kohrs upon his retirement from the Nebraska City Utilities.

Kohrs has worked with the utilities for 41 years after graduating from Peru State College. He has been general manager since 2018.

Kohrs is a volunteer firefighter, serving as a captain and secretary. He has also served on the Rotary Club and Nebraska City Area EDC board.

Bequette said he has been a great asset to the city.
