Nebraska Medicine files to dismiss its lawsuit against owners

OMAHA, Neb. — Nebraska Medicine asked the Douglas County District Court to dismiss its lawsuit "without prejudice," which means the case could be filed again later. Each side will pay its own legal costs, and the court record will not be fully completed.
The lawsuit was filed after the University of Nebraska Board of Regents approved an $800 million deal for the University to take full ownership of the nonprofit health system. Following the lawsuit the University and Clarkson Regional Health Services reorganized Nebraska Medicine's board of directors.
The interim board now includes leaders from both the University and Clarkson. It will oversee operations while the governance transition continues. Officials say the reorganization is part of a broader effort to align Nebraska Medicine more closely with the University.
The deal was approved on Jan. 15 and the lawsuit was filed the day after. Nebraska Medicine said the University and Clarkson's actions violated their initial governance agreement.
